There were another seventeen (17) headstones that were completely unreadable, due to deterioration. There are MANY empty spaces that signify graves that were either unmarked or have lost their stones. John and Susanna Henry were buried here (my family is POSITIVE of that), but there was no sign of their graves. This was probably the neatest cemetery I have ever been in. The amount of illiterate scratching in headstones bespeaks GREAT LOVE on the part of those left behind. It is very difficult to scratch into a rock, especially curves like most letters have. We are certain, after looking at the stones for so long, that there must have been only ONE person in the area who could write (during the 1870's, more or less). Many of the stones seem to have been scratched by the same person. This is definitely worth the trip.
