NEAL, CORA: Miss Cora Neal, oldest daughter of C. M. Neal, who lives near Capling, was burned to death last Tuesday. She was washing dishes after dinner and her clothes caught fire. She ran out in the yard and called her father, but when he got there her clothes were all burned off. She died that night. She was sixteen years old. NEELY, BERRY: Berry Neely, living near Hilham, was found dead in his bed Tuesday morning. He had been apparently well the night before. (Overton County) [Date: 1/27/1898, Vol. XI, No. 15, Page 8]
NEELY, BUD: New reached here Monday morning from Granville, announcing the death of Bud Neely, a merchant of that place. (Jackson County) [Date: 3/25/1897, Vol. X, No. 23, Page 1]
NEGRO, BOY: A negro boy was killed near J. W. Hamilton's last Monday. He was plowing a mule, and when the dinner hour arrived he mounted the mule to go to dinner. After leaving the field he rode out into a lane leading to the pike, when the mule threw him and his foot became entangled in the chains and he was dragged about two miles before the mule was stopped. NELSON, CAPT.: Capt. Nelson, assistant warden of the penitentiary, was killed by prisoners at Tracy City last week. [Date: 8/2/1894, Vol. VII, No. 40, Page 5]
NEWMAN, ALEX: Mr. Alex Newman died last Friday night at nine o'clock. Mr. Newman lost his wife a few months ago. He had been in bad health since he returned from Nashville, last Spring. NICHOLAS, MRS. J. E.: Mrs. J. E. Nicholas, died Monday evening at her home three miles south of town, after a lingering illness. Mrs. Nicholas was a daughter of W. J. Mills, and was a good Christian lady. [Date: 10/4/1894, Vol. VII, No. 49, Page 5]
NIXON, JOHN: John Nixon, a son of James Nixon, of Peyton's creek, who recently returned from Texas, died last week of consumption. He leaves a wife and three children. (Smith County) [Date: 8/2/1894, Vol. VII, No. 40, Page 2]
