PARKINS, LEVI J.: Levi J. Parkins died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. H. D. Franklin of this city June 4, 1908. aged 78 years, and was buried on Friday. He was a member of the Christian church. [Date: 6/10/1908, Vol. VI, No. 19, Page 1]

PARKINSON, MRS. O. D.: Mrs. O. D. Parkinson died at her home in the 18th district on May 10th, 1904, and was buried in the graveyard near Ensor. She was the beloved wife of Esq. Parkinson, and a most estimable lady. [Date: 5/18/1904, Vol. II, No. 15, Page 8]

PARKINSON, O. D.: Esq. O. D. Parkinson of the 18th district died at his home near Ensor Tuesday evening and was buried Wednesday. He was an upright and influential citizen. [Date: 10/19/1904, Vol. II, No. 37, Page 4]

PARRIGIN, LEE: Lee Parrigin, colored, died at his home near Algood last week. He went through the Civil war as a servant to his master and was faithful throughout the four years of conflict. He attended all the reunions of confederate soldiers in this section and was treated as a comrade by the boys. Parrigin always the voted the Democratic ticket. He was higly (sic) esteemed and a good citizen. [Date: 2/8/1912, Vol. X, No. 6, Page 5]

PATTERSON, J. M.: I will close this part of of (sic) this article but before I close I want to communicate the death of Dr. J. M. Patterson of Verona, Tenn. He was the father of Rev. Jas. M. Patterson, who died at Cookeville while pastor of the Cookeville charge (Methodist) more than twenty yrs. ago. Dr. Patterson lived to the ripe age of 83. . . . PATTERSON, PATTIE: A sad death occurred here on Thursday eve, Miss Pattie Patterson died after a long illness. [Date: 9/2/1909, Vol. VII, No. 35, Page 2]

PATTON, JOHN: Mr. John Patton died Sunday of lagrippe. (Rock Island) [Date: 2/6/1913, Vol. XI, No. 6, Page 1]

PAUL, ALTA: In Memory of Miss Alta Paul who departed this life Monday, July 8, 1907, at her home five miles west of Windsor, after a lingering illness of three and a half years of a complication of diseases. Deceased was born August 8, 1888, near Cookeville, Tenn., where she lived until four years ago, when her parents moved to this vicinity (Windsor, MO). She soon began to decline in health and gradually grew weaker. A number of physicians had been consulted and remedies tried, but all to no avail, and fond parents, two brothers and one sister, with many relatives and friends watched and tenderly cared for her during her days and years of suffering which were intense the last few weeks. Tuesday morning a large number of neighbors met at the home and followed the remains to Hickory Grove cemetery where a short funeral service was conducted by the young Rev. Hobson of the Baptist church. His remarks were well chosen and full of comfort to the sorrowing family, who have the heartfelt sympathy of many friends in their bereavement. The above item is from a newspaper printed in Windsor, Mo. and will be of interest to many of our readers. Miss Paul was a daughter of M. M. Paul, who is well known in this section. PAYNE, SON OF MR. AND MRS. WALTER: The two year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Payne of this city set his clothes on fire by some means, during temporary absence of his mother from the house, last Friday afternoon and so badly burned that death resulted. [Date: 11/30/1911, Vol. IX, No. 48, Page 9]

PEEK, CHILD OF JOHN: The little child of John Peek died of whooping cough Saturday. [Date: 6/17/1909, Vol. VII, No. 24, Page 9]

PEEK, CORDIA: Saturday, Nov. 21, 1908, death visited the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Peek, of Rickman, Tenn., and took form their home circle, their daughter, Cordia, aged 25 years. She was a favorite not only with the family but with the entire community in which she lived and during her long illness of consumption, she was patient and uncomplaining, thinking always of the welfare and comfort of others, even to the last. When God's call came to release her she was perfectly sensible of the fact and spoke of going to Him just as she would have spoken in health of making a visit to a friend. She leaves a father, mother, three brothers and two sisters to mourn their loss. . . . [Date: 12/3/1908, Vol. VI, No. 45, Page 2]

PEEK, MRS. JOHN: Mrs. John Peek died a few days ago and buried at Dodson Branch. [Date: 12/14/1911, Vol. IX, No. 50, Page 10]

PENDERGRASS, ALBERT: Albert Pendergrass died at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. F. R. Pendergrass, on Thursday morning, Jan. 17, 1911, after a brief illness. Albert was about 18years of age and one of the most promising men in the city. He was burried (sic) Wednesday evening in the city cemetery. [Date: 1/19/1911, Vol. IX, No. 3, Page 5]

PENDERGRASS, CHILD OF MR. AND MRS. JESSE: The child of Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Pendergrass, who lives a few miles southwest of town, died Friday, June 26, 1908. [Date: 7/1/1908, Vol. VI, No. 22, Page 1]

PENDERGRASS, L. H.: L. H. Pendergrass died at his home in Hermosa Beach, Cal. on Jan. 6, 1908. He was a son of J. H. Pendergrass of the 8th district, and left this county about 29 years ago. [Date: 1/15/1908, Vol. V, No. 50, Page 1]

PENDERGRASS, MARTELIA: The death angel also visited the home of Levi Maynard and claimed for its victim Martelia Pendergrass, mother-in-law of Levi. She was a good woman and was loved by all who knew here. She has gone to that beautiful home where parting is no more. [Date: 3/18/1909, Vol. VII, No. 11, Page 10]

PERKINS, JANE: Mrs. Jane Perkins died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. L. P. Gillem, in this city, on Aug. 1, 1911, aged about 80 years. Mrs. Perkins had been in feeble health for many rears (sic). [Date: 8/10/1911, Vol. IX, No. 32, Page 5]

PERKINS, MRS. LEVI: Mrs. Levi Perkins died Saturday night after a lingering illness, at the home of her son-in-law, Prof. H. D. Franklin. She was seventy years old and a devoted member of the Christian Church. She is survived by several grown children. The interment took place at the city cemetery Sunday afternoon. PERKINS, R. F.: R. F. Perkins died at his home two miles west of this city on Tuesday night, Dec. 3, 1912, after a brief illness, and will be buried in the city cemetery today. He was a Confederate soldier with a good record, and was highly esteemed by all who new him. He leaves a family of grown up children. [Date: 12/5/1912, Vol. X, No. 49, Page 5]

PHIFER, JOSEPH: The angel of death visited our vicinity last Friday morning and claimed for its victim Mr. Joseph Phifer, who had been in bad health for a long time. We extend our sympathy to the bereaved ones. He was laid to rest at the Brown's Mill graveyard. [Date: 2/20/1913, Vol. XI, No. 8, Page 1]

PHILLIPS, CLEVELAND: Cleveland Phillips, a young man living near here, died last week with typhoid fever. [Date: 12/16/1903, Vol. I, No. 45, Page 8]

PHILLIPS, INFANT OF BOB: The two weeks old infant of Bob Phillips died recently. [Date: 9/28/1904, Vol. II, No. 34, Page 4]

PHILLIPS, S. M.: S. M. Phillips of near Quiz died Monday evening, but we have not the particulars. [Date: 6/1/1904, Vol. II, No. 17, Page 1]

PHILLIPS, SAM: Was very sorry to learn of the death of Bro. Sam Phillips, as he was a good christian man and respected by all who knew him. We all must soon follow. Let us be ready for the greatest problem of life. [Date: 6/8/1904, Vol. II, No. 18, Page 3]

PHY, HENRY: Henry Phy of Algood died at his home last Friday night, but we have learned no particulars. [Date: 8/22/1907, Vol. V, No. 25, Page 1]

PHY, SAM: Tse (sic) death angel visited our community (Route 1) and claimed for its victim Sam Phy. He died Thursday and was buried Friday. He leaves a wife and six children to mourn his loss. We extend our spmpathy (sic) to the bereaved family and pray God's blessing to rest on them that they may live on the higd (sic) plain of God's great love, and when he calls them home there will be a united family in Heaven above. He was buried at the Phillips graveyard. Bro Carr conducted the services and at the close took up a collection, the people giving freely, and in less than ten minutes they had $19. PILAND, MR. AND MRS. R. H.: Mrs. Roseaner Piland, beloved wife of R. H. Piland, died in Cookeville, Tenn., Feb. 24, 1910. Mr. R. H. Piland died in Cookeville, Tenn., March 1, 1910. Both were laid to rest in the City Cemetery. R. H. Piland was born in Allen County, Kentucky, July 7, 1833. Mrs. Piland was born in the same county in 1837. They were married at Scottsville, Ky., in 1861, and lived there until 1883. Resided in Louisville, Bowling Green and other Kentucky cities for about twenty years and came to Cookeville a few years ago. Mr. Piland was a minister in the Missionary Baptist church for fifty years, and during that time held a number of important charges. Both he and Mrs. Piland were thorough Christians, loved by all who knew them. After a happy married life of nearly a half a century they were called up higher to be with the God they worshiped and obeyed. Death separated them for only five days. Five sons survive them: George Piland of this city, J. C. Piland of Cardwell, Mo., J. W. Piland of Memphis, Tenn., C. A. Piland of Lexington, Ky., and L. A. Piland of Stanley, Mo. PILAND, R. H.: Mr. R. H. Piland died at the home of his son, George Piland, in this city Tuesday night, March 1, 1910. His beloved wife preceded him to the glory land only five days, having died Thursday of last week. Mr. Piland had been a minister in the Baptist church for many years. Three of his sons were with him in his last hours. The Herald extends the bereaved family the sincere sympathy of the entire community in their loss of both parents in so short a space of time. PIPPIN, CHILD OF MR.: The child of Mr. Pippin near here (Bloomington) died of convulsions Saturday. The littler sufferer gritted two teeth out and swallowed them. [Date: 4/15/1903, Vol. I, No. 10, Page 8]

PIPPIN, JACK: Jack Pippin died in Missouri April 9th and was brought to Tennessee and buried April 14th. His home was in Whitewright, Texas. He leaves three sisters and two brothers and a host of friends to mourn his loss. [Date: 4/22/1909, Vol. VII, No. 16, Page 2]

PIPPIN, MRS. AB: Mrs. Ab Pippin died Monday and was buried Tuesday in the Bloomington Cemetery. [Date: 2/1/1912, Vol. X, No. 5, Page 2]

PIPPIN, R. F.: R. F. Pippin departed this life June 20, 1913, about 1 o'clock, after suffering three years and seven months. He leaves a wife and eleven children to mourn his loss. He was 76 years, 3 months and 20 days old. Mr. Pippin was a soldier in the civil war. He was a christian man and had been a member of the Freewill Baptist Church for about 35 years. Mr. Pippin had many friends that will be saddened to hear of his death. [Date: 7/17/1913, Vol. XI, No. 29, Page 3]

PITMAN, REASON: The death angel visited our community (Albany, KY) Mar. 19 and claimed for its victim Uncle Reason Pitman one of the oldest of the Pitmans in this part of the country, aged 80 years and five days. We are sad to give him up, but death is God's appointment. We hope he is much better off. He died of pneumonia. [Date: 3/31/1910, Vol. VIII, No. 13, Page 2]

PLUMLEE, D. B.: Dr. D. B. Plumlee died at his home near Butler's Landing last Saturday. He had been prominent in politics a few years ago, but had for some time devoted his time to the practice of his profession. [Date: 3/4/1912, Vol. X, No. 11, Page 6]

PLUMLEE, MRS. D. B.: Citizens of Cookeville will be pained to learn of the death of Mrs. D. B. Plumlee, which occurred at her home near Celina one day last week. [Date: 5/6/1903, Vol. I, No. 13, Page 1]

POSTON, O. H.: O. H. Poston died suddenly Aug. 29. [Date: 9/2/1908, Vol. VI, No. 31, Page 2]

POSTON, W. R.: W. R. Poston died at his home in this city last Monday, and was buried near his old home in Jackson county. He had been in the grocery business here for some time, and was a gentleman who had made many friends here. He leaves a family. [Date: 1/12/1911, Vol. IX, No. 2, Page 3]

POWELL, MRS. THOMAS: Mrs. Thomas Powell died last week, also Uncle George West, Aunt Sarah Dotson, and Prentice Harlin. [Date: 1/23/1913, Vol. XI, No. 4, Page 2]

PRESLEY, BELLE: Belle Presley, wife of Silas B. Presley of Martin's Creek, died last Sunday and was buried at Smith Chapel. She leaves a husband and eleven children, four girls and seven boys. [Date: 9/28/1904, Vol. II, No. 34, Page 4]

PRESLEY, ED: The writer was sorry to learn of Ed Presley's death. [Date: 5/17/1905, Vol. III, No. 15, Page 2]

PRICE, MOLLIE: Death has again entered our community, claiming for its victim Mrs. Mollie Price. She leaves a husband, three children and a host of friends to mourn her. [Date: 2/29/1908, Vol. VI, No. 3, Page 4]

PROFFITT, LUCINDA BELL: Lucinda Bell, widow of James Proffitt, died at the home of her son, R. E. L. Proffitt, in this city, Thursday night, Dec. 2, 1909, at 7:45 o'clock, and was buried in Jackson county on Friday. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. G. E. Pennington of Algood. Mrs. Profitt was 79 years old last September, and for many years a member of the Freewill Baptist church. She leaves four children, Mrs. W. E. Hensley of Quebeck, Mrs. H. J. Mayberry of Gainesboro, S. Houston Proffitt of Sale Creek and R. E. L. Proffitt of Cookeville. [Date: 12/9/1909, Vol. VII, No. 50, Page 5]

PRYOR, TOM: Bro. Tom Pryor died Friday and war buried in the East Baxter cemetery Saturday. The bereaved family have the heartfelt sympathy of the christians of Baxter. He leaves a wife, four children, a widowed mother and a host of friends to mourn his dead. Tom was baptized in the christian faith some two months ago by Bro. Cantrell of Cookeville.
