MABERRY, CARRY: Mrs. Carry Maberry died last Monday, she left a four days old infant and three other small children. She was buried in Smith Chapel cemetery last Tuesday. [Date: 8/22/1907, Vol. V, No. 25, Page 2]

MABERRY, CHILD OF MARION: Marion Maberry's little child died last week and was buried at the Overton Cemetery. [Date: 8/10/1911, Vol. IX, No. 32, Page 7]

MABERRY, LAURA: Mrs. Laura Maberry died last Thursday night. She leaves a husband and three children, the youngest being 8 days old. [Date: 7/8/1909, Vol. VII, No. 27, Page 2]

MABERRY, NANNY: Miss Nanny Maberry died last Thursday and was buried at Dodson's Branch Friday. The funeral was conducted by Rev. W. M. Swearingen. [Date: 5/6/1908, Vol. VI, No. 14, Page 3]

MABERRY, SETH: Uncle Seth Maberry, aged 90 years, died last Friday a.m. and was buried at Dotson Branch Saturday. [Date: 9/23/1909, Vol. VII, No. 38, Page 3]

MACKEY, WIFE OF JESS: Death has again visited our community and claimed for its victim the wife of Jess Mackey. She was the daughter of Henson Isom. It has been said that she was one of the most devoted wives and mothers, fully and freely consecrated to the duties of life, no one had more fully bestowed upon them the love and respect of family and friend than she. MACKIE, MRS. VIRGIL: Mrs. Virgil Mackie died at her home in this city on Monday, Sept 5, 1910. Her baby also died a few hours before she passed away. [Date: 9/8/1910, Vol. VIII, No. 36, Page 4]

MADEWELL, DAUGHTER OF MR. AND MRS. JOHN: We are very sorry to announce the death of Mr. and Mrs. John Madewell's little daughter, who died Friday nigh and was buried Saturday. MAHAN, MAGGIE E.: Maggie E. Mahan was born in Putnam county, Tenn., Sept. 22, 1859, and departed this life June 20, 1905, aged 46 years. She was the daughter of Rev. D. L. and Evaline McCaleb. Rev. McCaleb was once an honored member of the Central Tennessee conference, but is now deceased. Sister Maggie was married to J. P. Mahan Aug. 31, 1882. MANSEL, INFANT OF KIRK: Kirk Mansel's infant child died last Friday and was buried the same day at the Spring Creek cemetery, W. B. Gentry conducting the funeral services. [Date: 8/16/1905, Vol. III, No. 28, Page 5]

MARROW, ISHAM E.: Isham E. Marrow died at home near here Sept. 27th. He was born March 28, 1838. He had been almost helpless for two years. He was a christain (sic) hearted man and belonged to the Methodist church for thirty-five years. He was submissive to God's will and he said he was ready to go at any time. He leaves a wife and four children to mourn his loss. His oldest daughter, Mrs. R. L. Keys, lives at Pomona, Tenn., and one son, Alex Marrow, at Bront, Texas, Mrs. Lon Patton lives at Wilder, Tenn., and Mrs. Ellen Swaffard resides at this place (Brotherton). MARTIN, INFANT CHILD OF DR. AND MRS. C. P.: The infant child of Dr. and Mrs. C. P. Martin died Wednesday morning. The parent have the sympathy of the entire community in their loss. [Date: 4/1/1903, Vol. I, No. 8, Page 1]

MARTIN, JOE: Mr. Joe Martin died recently of tuberculosis. [Date: 3/27/1913, Vol. XI, No. 13, Page 7]

MARTIN, JOSEPH H.: On Tuesday afternoon Dr. J. B. S. Martin received a telegrams from San Francisco announcing the death of his son Joe, which sad event occurred in that city Monday night, but giving no particulars. MARTIN, L. B.: The death angels have been visiting our town and Sunday evening took from our midst Mr. L. B. Martin, husband of Alta (Brown) Martin, leaving wife and five little children to mourn his loss. [Date: 11/10/1910, Vol. VIII, No. 45, Page 6]

MARTIN, MRS. H. C.: Mrs. H. C. Martin died at her home in this city Friday night, July 7, 1911, of tuberculosis. The funeral will be held Sunday afternoon. [Date: 7/2/1911, Vol. IX, No. 27, Page 5]

MARTIN, MRS. H. C.: The funeral of Mrs. H. C. Martin was held at the residence Sunday afternoon at one o'clock, services begin conducted by Elder J. D. Walling and Rev. W. W. Baxter. MARTIN, PARMELIA: Mrs. Parmelia Martin, widow of the late Dr. J. P. Martin, died at her home in this city Saturday, September 28th, 1907, after a long illness. She was about 84 years of age and a highly respected lady. For many years she had been a faithful member of the Christian church. Mrs. Martin is survived by three children, Drs. J. B. S. and H. C. Martin and Miss Z. Martin, all of this city. Her remains were laid to rest in the city cemetery at 4 o'clock Sunday. [Date: 10/3/1907, Vol. V, No. 31, Page 1]

MASSA, ADA: Miss Ada Massa, daughter of Mrs. Dorinda Massa, died Nov. 17, aged 19, at her home near Ditty. [Date: 10/19/1904, Vol. II, No. 37, Page 4]

MASSA, AMMON: Two Boys Drowned - Ammon Massa, son of Travis Massa, and Carl Rice, son of J. A. Rice, were drowned in the millpond at Gentry's mill near Window Cliff on Tuesday about 11 o'clock. Together with Edgar Hickey, about 16 years old, there were in a boat which upset. The bodies were recovered in about two hours, the water being 14 feet deep. The Massa boy was 18 and the Rice boy 14 years old. [Date: 5/20/1908, Vol. VI, No. 16, Page 1]

MASSA, MRS. A. R.: Mrs. R. A. Massa died at her home a few miles southwest of this city April 18, 1909. She has been sick for some time. [Date: 4/22/1909, Vol. VII, No. 16, Page 5]

MASSA, MRS. DILLARD: Mrs. Dillard Massa died at her home near Monterey on Monday, Oct. 30, 1905. The remains were brought here on the train and interred at the West graveyard. Deceased was a sister of P. C. Farley of this city. [Date: 11/1/1905, Vol. III, No. 39, Page 6]

MASTERS, JANE: Mrs. Jane Masters died Tuesday night. The bereaved ones have our deepest sympathy. [Date: 4/27/1911, Vol. IX, No. 17, Page 2]

MASTERS, NANCY: Aunt Nancy Masters, who I spoke of in my letter only a short time ago, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 26, 1913. She sent her little message to loved ones in Tennessee. She sent for my husband and I (Nora Glasscock) on Sunday. We went and while she was feeble, yet was cheerful. She told us that she would not be here long but little did we think the next Sunday would find us standing by her dying bed. She was taken ill Friday night and told the doctor that she must go, but if he could only relieve her pain for a shart (sic) time she would be at rest. She told her daughter not to grieve for her for she was only going home. Two weeks later her son Simpson and his wife both died of pneumonia, only three days difference in their deaths. Another son has been confined to his room ever since she died. He first had the pneumonia, but they think now, he has tuberculosis. (Miller, MO) [Date: 3/13/1913, Vol. XI, No. 11, Page 3]

MATHENY, MATTIE: Mrs. Mattie Matheny died recently, leaving a husband and a little child. [Date: 1/6/1910, Vol. VIII, No. 1, Page 4]

MATHENY, NANCY: Mrs. Nancy Matheny died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. S. J. Smith, two miles north of town Tuesday evening, and will be buried today at the Paran graveyard. [Date: 6/29/1904, Vol. II, No. 21, Page 1]

MATHENY, SALLY: Mrs. Sally Matheny, wife of Winfred Matheney and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Tibert Ramsey, died at her home in North Monterey Thursday morning. Mrs. Matheney was 28 years old. She leaves a husband and one child. [Date: 2/19/1908, Vol. VI, No. 3, Page 1]

MATLOCK, MARY: Mrs. Mary Matlock -- Mrs. Matlock died at her home in Sparta, Tuesday afternoon, after a long and painful illness, and was buried Wednesday after at Highland Cemetery, following the impressive funeral service conducted by Rev. F. E. Alford at the Methodist Church. Mrs. Matlock died at the age of 67 years, 7 months and 23 days, during a large portion of which time she had been a faithful member of the Methodist church. In speaking of her character Rev. Alford, in course of the funeral service, stated that Mrs. Matlock was told by one of her sons a few days ago that he had never known of her doing anything wrong. Mrs. Matlock is survived by her husband, W. H. Matlock of Sparta, Charlie Matlock of Birmingham, Ala. and Walter Matlock of Kansas City. . . . [Date: 12/19/1912, Vol. X, No. 51, Page 5]

MATTHEWS, W. J.: W. J. Matthews, Sr., died Dec. 14th and was buried the 16th. He leaves a lot of relatives and friends to mourn his loss. [Date: 12/23/1909, Vol. VII, No. 52, Page 7]

MAURER, LOUISE: Mrs. Louise Maurer died the 7 inst. of pneumonia, she was 70 years old. (Santa Fe, KS) [Date: 3/28/1912, Vol. X, No. 13, Page 10]

MAXWELL, CATHERINE: Our Almighty, God in his wisdom saw fit to call from our earthly home our mother, Catherine Maxwell. She was born July 6, 1876, was 35 years and 3 days old, departed this life July 9th, 1911, of heart trouble; was married to J. M. Elliott, April 3rd, 1894. She professed religion in early life and united with the Methodist Church, of which she remained a consistent member until death. Four children blessed this union, three girls, and one boy, all of whom survive her; Annie, Bessie, Ethel and Rex. She was a true, devoted wife and mother, and had many friends. Rev. S. C. MAXWELL, MRS. A. G.: Mrs. A. G. Maxwell of this city died in San Antonio, Texas, last Sunday, April 7, 1912. In hope of benefiting her health Mrs. Maxwell went to Texas to spend the winder, but the change of climate brought no relief. She was brought here for burial, arriving Tuesday night, the funeral taking place from the family residence Wednesday afternoon, services being conducted by Rev. W. B. Boyd. Mrs. Maxwell was greatly loved by her many friends. She leaves her husband and five children, to whom our hearts go out in sympathy. [Date: 4/11/1912, Vol. X, No. 15, Page 4]

MAYNARD, BILL: Body Found -- The body of Bill Maynard was found the first of the week in a bunch of laurel in an out of the way place near the DeKalb county line. The body was decomposed, and only identified by the clothing. Nothing is known as to the manner in which Mr. Maynard met his death. [Date: 7/14/1910, Vol. VIII, No. 28, Page 5]

MCAFFREY, J. W.: J. W. McAffrey Murdered -- Skull Fractured and Body Thrown in City Reservoir -- Last Friday morning about 10 o'clock the body of J. W. McAffrey was found in the city reservoir. Laying by the all (sic) was his hat, pipe, knife, match [b]ox and sack of tobacco. Coroner J. R. Douglas impaneled a [ju]ry of inquest, which reported that [M]cAffrey came to his death at the hands [of] unknown persons and his body [t]hrown in the water. There was a large gash in the back of [h]is head, a cut over one eye and bruise [on] his jaw. Mr. McAffrey was a quiet and inof[fe]nsive man and had resided in Cooke[vi]lle for many years. He left his home [af]ter supper and was last seen about 8 [o']clock Thursday night, so far as has [b]een learned. No motive is known to the officers, [a]nd there is no clue to the identity of [the] guilty person or persons. The funeral services were conducted [at] the family home on Saturday by [R]ev. W. W. MCBROOM, DAISY ELLER: Death has claimed Daisy Eller McBroom, wife of Samuel McBroom. She was born August 8, 1883, and confessed Christ at the age of 15 years, and departed this life August 11, 1905, aged 22 years and 3 days. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. G. W. Wilson. She left the consoling thought to her husband and child, father, sisters, brothers and friends that she died in full faith in Christ, her last words being breathed in songs of praise to the Lord that doeth all things well. She said in her dying hours not to week for her. She seemed to think of the future life which she was prepared to meet. . . . [Date: 9/13/1905, Vol. III, No. 32, Page 3]

MCBROOM, MRS. W. W.: Mrs. W. W. McBroom died at her home in Double Springs last Sunday, of consumption. She leaves her husband and several children. [Date: 12/25/1913, Vol. XI, No. 52, Page 3]

MCCAIN, ANDREW: Judge Andrew McCain, formerly a well-known judiciary figure of Tennessee and a pioneer of San Diego, passed away Jan. 18, 1913, at the home of his daughter, the wife of Rev. L. C. Kirkis, 122 North Chicago street. Judge McCain, who was 86 years of age, was a member of the circuit bench of Middle Tennessee during the strenuous days just following the Civil war and later was a supreme judge of the state and United States attorney for the middle district of Tennessee, during which time he was connected with many famous cases. In 1885 he came to San Diego, where he remained until two years ago, when he came to reside with his daughter. He is also survived by two sons, R. D. McClain of San Diego and William McClain of Lakeside, Cal. Funeral services will be held at the family home, 122 North Chicago street, Monday morning at 10 o'clock. MCCALEB, EVA: Mrs. Eva McCaleb died Tuesday. She leaves seven children to mourn her loss. We extend our sympathy to the bereaved family. [Date: 3/18/1908, Vol. VI, No. 7, Page 4]

MCCAWLEY, KIRK: Last Friday Kirk McCawley was shot and killed at Algood by George Comstock. McCawley was a son of Esq. J. P. McCawley, and a young man of character. He was 21 years old and left a wife and one child. Comstock is 25, and a widower. He is now in jail. The trouble came up in a dispute over some chickens. [Date: 9/8/1910, Vol. VIII, No. 36, Page 4]

MCCLAIN, MRS. L. R.: Mrs. L. R. McClain died at her home in this city on Thursday, Sept. 1, 1910. She had not been in good health for some time, but was not seriously sick until the day before her death, when she was overcome with a fainting spell, from which she never recovered. Mrs. McClain has a large acquaintance and was a highly esteemed lady. [Date: 9/8/1910, Vol. VIII, No. 36, Page 4]

MCCLAIN, SARAH EMILY: Mrs. Sarah Emily McClain, wife of Dr. L. R. McClain, entered into rest Sept. 1st, 1910. Mrs. McClain was the youngest daughter of Mr. Stephen Burton and was born near Cookeville, Putnam County, Tenn., Feb. 13, 1850. She is survived by her husband, Dr. L. R. McClain, and six children, Dr. W. S. McClain, Wm. A. McClain, Mrs. Lucian Clark, Mrs. Alice Snodgrass, Charles and Robert McClain. Also two sisters, Mrs. Mary Cummings and Mrs. C. C. Young of Sparta, and one brother, Mr. Charles Burton of Nashville. Mrs. McClain was a member of the Methodist Church. . . . Many friends attended the funeral which was conducted at the home by Revs. W. E. Doss and W. W. Baxter. The interment was in the Burton Cemetery. [Date: 9/15/1910, Vol. VIII, No. 37, Page 8]

MCCLELLAN, LULA: Mrs. Lula McClellan died last week Wednesday at the home of her father, J. A. Boatman, Sr., in the 15th district. [Date: 7/4/1907, Vol. V, No. 18, Page 1]

MCCLUEN, MARY H.: Mary H. McCluen, wife of I. W. McCluen, was born May 26, 1854; she was married December 14, 1871 to I. W. McCluen and departed this life October 16, 1909. She leaves a good and kind husband and nine children to weep over the loss of a good mother and a kind affectionate companion, but their loss is certainly her gain. She was converted at the age of fifteen years and joined the Congregational church in which connection she lived until her death. . . . She was laid to rest in the Cookeville cemetery to rest. . . . MCCLUEN, MRS. I. W.: Mrs. I. W. McCluen died at her home in this city on Saturday, Oct. 16, 1909, after a long illness. She was buried in the city cemetery on Monday, Rev. J. T. Price conducting the services. Mrs. McCluen was a most estimable lady, and had resided here several years. MCCORMICK, OLEN: The angle of death visited the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. M. McCormick and called for its victim their sweet little babe. Weep not, dear parents, for little Olen. MCCOWAN, DAUGHTER OF GEORGE: The death angel visited Bro. George McCowin some few days ago and claimed for its victim one of his daughters. [Date: 12/5/1912, Vol. X, No. 49, Page 5]

MCCULLEY, JAMES L.: James L. McCulley of Bushnell, Fla., formerly of Tennessee, died Nov. 29, 1910, was brought back here by O. S. Webb and laid to rest in the Oakalona cemetery Dec. 2. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. J. M. McCulley of Olga, Tenn., and was well known throughout this entire community. He was 23 years of age and leaves a wife and one child besides a host of relatives and friends to mourn his sad and lonely death. He had been a member of the C. P. Church for a number of years and was a faithful and kind husband, a loving father and a true christain (sic). . . . [Date: 12/8/1910, Vol. VIII, No. 49, Page 3]

MCDALE, FRANK: Mr. Frank McDale died Feb. 13 after a long spell of sickness. He was about 23 years old and leaves a wife and one child. He was a son-in-law of Mr. Tom Green. [Date: 2/20/1913, Vol. XI, No. 8, Page 3]

MCDONALD, INFANT OF MR. AND MRS. W. W.: The infant of Mr. and Mrs. W. W. McDonald died last week. [Date: 3/24/1910, Vol. VIII, No. 12, Page 7]

MCDONALD, MARY: On Friday, Feb. 14, 1913, the angel of death visited this vicinity and claimed for its victim the soul of Mrs. Mary McDonald, and carried it from this low ground of sin and sorrow to that celestial city on high. Mrs. McDonald was born Feb. 23, 1840; was married to Andrew McDonald, June 17, 1857; departed this life Feb. 14, 1913, aged 72 years, 11 months and 21 days. She professed faith in Christ and joined the Cumberland Presbyterian church in 1886, and lived a consistent member until death. . . . Aunt Mary was reared here and had a host of friends, as was demonstrated by the long procession [t]hat followed the remains to the family burying ground, where a large number of friends and relatives had gathered to pay the tribute of respect. MEADOWS, JOB: Job Meadows of Jackson county died last Thursday. He was a brother-in-law to the writer (Mrs. Inda Belle Chaffin). He left a wife and four little children. I sympathize with them. MEADOWS, LEE: Tuesday night Lee Meadows was shot and killed and his father, Willie Meadows shot in the army by unknown parties Bloomington. No arrest have been made up to the time of going to press. [Date: 10/28/1908, Vol. VI, No. 39, Page 1]

MEADOWS, MILLIE: Mrs. Millie Meadows died at the home of Simmons Pippin Monday. [Date: 3/22/1905, Vol. III, No. 7, Page 1]

MEADOWS, R. M.: Mr. R. M. Meadows died at his home in Nashville last Friday after a long illness. He had been a popular member of the police force in that city for a number of years. Mr. Meadows had many friends in this section, havign (sic) been rearedd (sic) in old Jackson County. [Date: 5/1/1913, Vol. XI, No. 18, Page 3]

MEDLIN, MARY: Mrs. Mary Medlin died Aug. 2, of slow fever. [Date: 8/12/1909, Vol. VII, No. 32, Page 5]

MEDUFFY, BETSY JANE: Aunt Betsy Jane Meduffy died Oct. 2, and was buried next day at Smith's Chapel. She was nearly 74 years old and belonged to the United Baptist church. [Date: 10/21/1909, Vol. VII, No. 42, Page 7]

MEEKS, BABY OF CONDUCTOR AND MRS.: The baby of Conductor and Mrs. Meeks died last week, and was taken north for burial. [Date: 2/8/1905, Vol. III, No. 1, Page 1]

MERCER, ED: The people of Pleasant Hill were saddened to hear of the death of Ed Mercer, a young man who attended school here some a few years ago. His home was at Illwill, Ky., but he had been working at Carthage for some time. He was taken with typhoid fever while there and was unable to be removed to his home. He was a Christian young man and made many friends wherever he went. He leaves a father, mother, sister, brother, and a host of friends and relatives who will ever miss him very much. MERRITT, BILL: Uncle Bill Merritt of Laurel Hill died Dec. 30, after an illness of 18 months with heart disease. [Date: 1/2/1913, Vol. XI, No. 1, Page 4]

MILLIGAN, BRYAN: Davidson -- Our little village was intensely shocked yesterday, June 13, when the news spread of the accidental shooting of Bryan, the son of Sol Milligan. The boy 14 years old had gone to the house and was teasing his little brother who was about 3 years old and who had in his hand a harmless 22 caliber rifle and not knowing the gun was loaded snapped it at his brother, the bullet penetrating the head and he lived only a few hours. MILLS, ANNA: This most excellent lady died at her home near Cookeville on June 11, 1903, aged 75 years. She was the wife of W. J. (Uncle Billy) Mills, and mother of nine grown up children now living. She suffered a severe stroke of paralysis more than two years ago, and never spoke from that time till her death. She had been a consistent member of the Cumberland Presbyterian church for many years, and died in the full triumph of christian faith. Her remains were laid to rest at the Salem graveyard. MILLS, LUCY HILL: Mrs. Lucy Hill Mills died several days ago with cancer of the breast. She was a good woman she always met you with a good word and a pleasant smile. We all loved her and hated to give her up, but God knows best. [Date: 2/3/1909, Vol. VII, No. 5, Page 1]

MILLS, W. J.: W. J. Mills died suddenly at his home south of Cookeville on Tuesday evening Feb. 14, 1905, and was buried in the family lot at Salem Wednesday. We have not learned the particulars. Uncle Billy was one of our oldest and most highly esteemed citizens, and his death is regretted by a large number of friends. A just man has gone to his reward. MIMS, ERNEST: Ernest, infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Jas. L. Mims of Nashville died last Sunday morning. The remains were brought to Cookeville on the night train and buried in the city cemetery at 11 o'clock Monday. Services were conducted at the Duke House, by Rev. A. F. Zeigel. MINOR, MRS. J. V.: Mrs. J. V. Minor died Monday at her home in Gainesboro. She was the widow of the late Dr. John Minor and mother of B. S. Minor of Cookeville. She was bout 70 years old and a lifelong member of the Christian church. [Date: 11/6/1913, Vol. XI, No. 45, Page 3]

MITCHELL, ADELLE: Mrs. Adelle Mitchell, wife of Dillard Mitchell, died at her home in this city on Sunday, Feb. 16, 1908. She was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. D. C. Gossage. She leaves a husband and two children, a girl of 10 and a baby. Her remains were buried in the family cemetery near Baxter. [Date: 2/19/1908, Vol. VI, No. 3, Page 1]

MITCHELL, JOHN: Whereas, Since the last meeting of Cookeville Lodge, No. 266, F. & A. M., Brother John Mitchell has died; and Whereas, Bro. Mitchell lived up to the teachings and tenets of Free Masonry in the highest sense; although he lived about nine miles from this lodge he was nearly always in attendance at the regular meetings. Bro. Mitchell was a Mason for about twenty years, and was a devoted christian for about twenty years; therefore be it Resolved, that in the death of Bro. Mitchell the lodge and its community has lost one of their most useful members and citizens; but out loss is his eternal gain, and we hereby tender our sympathy to his bereaved widow, children and friends, and a copy of these resolutions will be spread upon the minutes of the lodge, and we request that same be published in all the county papers, and that a copy be furnished his widow. MITCHELL, MARTIN: The death angel visited J. M. Mitchell's home Friday morning at 9 o'clock and claimed for its victim his beloved father, Uncle Martin Mitchell. He was very old man, somewhere in the 80's. He was an old soldier and pensioner and was loved by all who knew him. He was laid to rest at Taylors, Tennessee. MITCHELL, MRS. H. J.: Death visited Mr. and Mrs. John Tucker Thursday, August 8, and called Mrs. H. J. Mitchell from this world to a better world. Grandma Mitchell, as we all called her was 83 years of age and has been a member of the Church of Christ 63 years. She was a good christian and a good woman and died happy. MITCHELL, MRS. SOLOMON: Mrs. Solomon Mitchell died at her home in Monterey Saturday, July 19, 1913, at an advanced age. She is survived by her husband, one son, Wm. Mitchell of Missouri, and four daughters, Mrs. Wm. Brown of Indiana, Mrs. P. H. Huffhines, Mrs. T. B. Holloway and Miss Sarah Mitchell of Monterey. She was a member of the Baptist church. MITCHELL, NANCY ADEL: Mrs. Nancy Adel Mitchell, wife of Mr. J. D. Mitchell of Cookeville, departed to be with the Lord on Feb. 16, 1908, aged 25 years. She was the daughter of Mr. D. C. Gossage. She was a faithful wife, a good mother, and a good Christian, loving and considerate to all; her departure is mourned by a large circle of friends. MITCHELL, R. L.: R. L. Mitchell, Sr., died at his home in Livingston a few days ago. He was 77 years of age, a mason and member of the Methodist church. Mr. Mitchell served through the war with Morgan's cavalry of the confederate army. He was well known in the upper country, and highly esteemed by all. [Date: 2/15/1912, Vol. X, No. 7, Page 5]

MONTGOMERY, MRS.: One Woman Kills Another -- Word was received here this morning that a woman by the name of Kirby had killed a Mrs. Montgomery Tuesday night by cutting her with a butcher knife. MOORE, DILLARD R.: Dillard R. Moore was struck by an automobile in Nashville last Sunday and sustaided (sic) injuries from which he died. The accident occurred on the corner of Union and Cherry streets. Mrs. Moore grew to manhood in Cookeville, where he has many friends. He was a son of Russell Moore. Mr. Moore was a successful business man, have charge of the retail department for Montgomery & Co. He leaves a wife and seven children. A number of citizens attended the funeral on Tuesday. MOORE, DORCAS PENNOCK: Whereas, on June 13, 1908, the angel of death beckoned and the soul of Mrs. Dorcas Pennock Moore, wife of Dr. J. T. Moore, of Algood, Tenn., took its flight to God who gave it, therefore be it resolved, that we, the members of the Putnam County Medical Association, extend to the grief-stricken husband, our esteemed fellow member, our sincere sympathy in his great sorrow. MOORE, J. M.: J. M. Moore died at his home with heart trouble on July 31, 1913, and was buried at the Robinson graveyard Aug. 1, where his mother was laid. Rev. Skelton preached his funeral. He leaves a kind and loving wife and two sons, Everett, and Wallace Moore; three step-children, Mr. Will Long, Mrs. Allie Daniels, and Mrs. Lillie Price, and one sister, Mrs. Jane Farley, all of Putnam and White counties, and a host of friends to mourn his loss. MOORE, JENNIE: Miss Jennie Moore died at Rockwall, Texas last week, after a brief illness. She left here last spring to reside in Texas. [Date: 11/23/1904, Vol. II, No. 42, Page 1]

MOORE, LUCY: Miss Lucy Moore died at the home of her sister, Mrs. Alta Gracey last Thursday and was buried in the city cemetery Saturday evening. While she had been in poor health for some time, her death was a surprise to her many friends. [Date: 10/12/1904, Vol. II, No. 36, Page 1]

MOORE, MRS. J. T.: Mrs. Dr. J. T. Moore died at her home in Algood Saturday morning, June 13, 1908. Her death was sudden, she only living a few hours after being stricken. The funeral was held at Algood on Sunday. Mrs. Moore was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L. B. Pennock of Nashville. Besides her husband she leaves one little girl. MOORE, P. M.: Hon. P. M. Moore, of Clay County, died Wednesday of consumption. He was a member of the last legislation and had served two terms as County Trustee. He was forty-two years old and a highly respected citizen. [Date: 6/2/1910, Vol. VIII, No. 22, Page 5]

MORGAN, AMANDA: Mrs. Amanda Morgan died at her home in Jackson county on Saturday night March 16, 1907, in her eighty-first year, and was buried in the Overton graveyard on Monday. Mrs. Morgan was widely know and held in the highest esteem throughout this section of the state. She was a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church for 65 years, and was universally loved for her true christian character. Truly a good woman has gone to her reward. Her husband, Rev. Austin H. Morgan, who died about nine years ago was a noted minister of the gospel, having preached for fifty-five years -- privilege given but few men. Mrs. Morgan was the mother of Mesers. R. P., J. MORGAN, GEO. E.: Geo. E. Morgan of this city was found dead on Mill creek, near the store of W. C. Gentry, about ten miles north of town, last Friday morning. It is supposed that he fell from his horse Thursday night, as the saddle was found near him, and either killed by the fall or drowned, the body being partially submerged in water. His remains were brought here and thence taken to Gainesboro for burial. Mr. Morgan was a son of the late Judge Geo. H. Morgan, and a lawyer by profession. [Date: 2/7/1906, Vol. IV, No. 1, Page 1]

MORROW, NANCY: Mrs. Nancy Morrow was buried at Salem cemetery Tuesday afternoon. [Date: 5/2/1912, Vol. X, No. 18, Page 8]

MORROW, NAT: Nat Morrow of near Cookeville was shot and killed by Oscar Moss at the Welch stave mill near Caney Fork Wednesday evening of last week. The murder resulted from a quarrel over a trifling matter during the day. Moss escaped and has not been arrested as yet. His brother who was present was arrested, brought here and placed under bond. MOSCRIP, MYRTLE: Once more has the grim reaper invaded our village this time claiming Miss Myrtle Moscrip as his victim, she having died at the home of her parents, Major and Mrs. R. J. Moscrip last Saturday. The funeral was held from the Christian church Sunday afternoon and was largely attended. She was a most estimable young lady. MOSCRIP, VERA: Miss Vera Moscrip died at her home in this city on Wednesday, Sept. 4, 1907, of consumption. She was a daughter of Maj. and Mrs. R. J. Moscrip, and had grown to womanhood here. Vera was a member of the M. E. Church, South; and a most lovable girl. She was buried in the city cemetery today, Rev. Geo. R. Allen conducting the services. MOUNGER, FRED: The trial of Sellers Vines, the negro who is charged with the killing of deputy constable, Fred Mounger, on the night of Sept. 27, has been postponed till Nov. 13th. The only eye witness in the case is at his home with typhoid fever. [Date: 10/26/1911, Vol. IX, No. 43, Page 3]

MOUNTCASTLE, R. E. L.: R. E. L. Mountcastle died at his home in Knoxville last week after a brief illness. He was a law partner of Senator John K. Shields and one of the best known politicians in the state begin a member of the Democratic national committee for Tennessee at the time of his death. [Date: 8/14/1913, Vol. XI, No. 33, Page 3]

MYATT, LULA: The angel of death has once again entered our community and taken for its victim, Mrs. Lula Myatt. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. Brown of this place and wife of Winfield Myatt. She was born Dec. 4, 1887, and after 22 years of usefulness was taken through the gateway of joy June 10, 1910. She was the mother of one child two weeks old and sister to two brothers and one sister. Death came to her very unexpectedly which was caused by heart failure. . . . MYERS, MRS. TOM: Mrs. Tom Myers died the 29th of September after a short illness. She was a devoted member of the church of Christ. She leaves a husband and eleven children to mourn her loss. Our heartfelt sympathy is extended to the bereaved family. Three or four members of the family are very low with fever. MYERS, SAM: Sam Myers died Thursday night Jan. 17, after a long spell of consumption. Mr. Myers was a young young man much loved by all who knew him. He leaves a wife and one child, father and mother, five brothers and four sisters, and a host of relatives to mourn his early death. He was about 23 years old. He bore his suffering manfully and expressed his willingness to go, asking his friends to prepare to meet him. The funeral service was held at Old Zion by Rev.
