HAGGARD, JOHN: We had a sad accident at the Bridgeport Woodenware Mfg Co. last Friday resulting in the death of John Haggard. He was running one of the saws when a piece of timber got hung, flying back and hitting him in the side just below the heart, breaking three ribs. He drew only one breath after being hit. He was 20 years old and left a father, mother, three sisters and four brothers to mourn his death but their loss is his eternal gain. He was a member of the Holiness church and loved by all who knew him. His remains were laid to rest Saturday evening at 3 o'clock in the Rocky Springs cemetery. HAMPTON, J. B.: J. B. Hampton died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. O. B. Maxey of Celina, August 10, 1908, aged 76 years, and was buried at Butler's Landing beside his wife. He was a Confederate veteran and a Mason; had been trustee of Clay county two terms and was in revenue service under Cleveland. Mr. Hampton leaves two sons, J. B. Hampton of Springfield, Mo., and G. W. Hampton of Gainesboro, and four daughters, Mrs. O. B. Maxey of Celina, Mrs. Delia Butler of Hilham, Mrs. Dixie Gardner and Miss Sallie Hampton of Springfield, Mo. HAMTON, LIZZIE FLOYD: Mrs. Lizzie Floyd Hamton, wife of George Hamton, died several days ago. She seemed to be in good health, washed Monday, ate some krout, some time in the day took something like colic and died Friday night. She left six small children, one baby seven months old. HANEY, INFANT OF MR. AND MRS. LOUIS: The dark angel of death visited the home of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Haney June 17 and claimed for its victim their infant son. The bereaved parents have the sympathy of the entire community. Funeral services will be held today at the Brotherton Cemetery. [Date: 6/20/1907, Vol. V, No. 16, Page 4]
HANEY, JOHN: The summons of death was sent to the house of our neighbor and took uncle John Haney on the night of Feb. 3. Mr. Haney was a good neighbor and citizen, a Christain (sic) gentleman; we hope his spirit is basking in the eternal light with the angels aronnd (sic) the throne of God in Heavens pure and happy home. HANEY, LOUIS: Louis Haney was run over by a passenger train near Brotherton last Saturday and his body torn to pieces. He was a section hand and it is said had been drinking. We have not received any particulars of the horrible affair. [Date: 10/3/1907, Vol. V, No. 31, Page 4]
HANEY, MRS. ANDY: Dear Editor: Will you allow me a little space in your paper as I do not call on you often. I want to say to our dear Herald readers that Mrs. Andy Haney died last night, leaving her husband and five children to mourn her loss. She was a granddaughter of Prof. W. E. Smith of near Gainesboro. She was well liked by all who knew her and was a good wife, and a good mother and a good neighbor. She had been a member of the Christian church for many years. HANEY, NANNIE B.: The death angel visited our community and claimed for its own Mrs. Nannie B. Haney, wife of Andy Haney. She leaves a husband and five children to mourn her loss. She was raised by her grandparents, W. E. Smith and wife as her parents died when she was an infant. She was a loving wife and mother and a place is vacant that can never be filled. HARP, EARL: We were very much shocked last week when the news reached us that Earl Harp was dead as he died in the hospital at Nashville and even his nearest and dearest friends did not learn that he was sick until the sad news reached them that he was dead. Earl was a truthful, honest man. He leaves a mother a dear old grandmother and a host of relatives and friends to mourn his loss. He was brought back here and his remains were laid to rest at Paron graveyard year last Sunday. We extend our heartfelt sympathy to the bereft ones. [Date: 2/24/1910, Vol. VIII, No. 8, Page 6]
HARP, JAMES GUY: Mr. James Guy Harp departed this life April 27, 1911, after one week's illness of pneumonia. On Thursday morning, one week before his death, he was taken very suddenly and violently with this dreadful disease, and although everything possible was done by a skilled physician and loving friends to restore him to health, it was our Heavenly Father's plan to take him home to heaven. He was a faithful and devoted husband and father . . . The funeral was held at the Provo Methodist Church and many friends attended to extend their loving sympathy to the bereft widow and the four fatherless children. HARP, JASPER N.: Our community was made sad on last Tuesday, April 23, 1907, when God in His great power saw fit to take from the home Uncle Jasper Harp. He was born Sept. 30, 1833; died April 23, 1907, age 73 years, 6 months and 22 days. He had been undergoing the most intense suffering for four weeks when God released him from all pain and bore his spirit home. For several years he had been a member of the M. E. Church. He was a good citizen and was loved by all who knew him. He leaves a wife, eight children, several grandchildren and two sisters to mourn his loss. HARP, MARY E.: Mrs. Mary E. Harp, wife of M. A. Harp, and daughter of Mrs. Catherine Stockton, died at her home near Algood, on the 17th day of Aug., 1903, at the age of 29 years. She was a consistent member of the M. E. church, and was faithful to the end, and died in the triumph of a loving Savior. She left a husband, five children, the youngest an infant, a mother, brother and sisters to mourn her loss. She was loved and esteemed by all who knew here, and a multitude of people followed her remains to her last resting place. It will be remembered that just one year ago to day (17) her little daughter was drowned in Bear creek, and she has not seen a well day since; ere this she and the little daughter have joined hands in the great beyond. HEMBREE, JOE BOB: Hon. Joe Bob Hembree died at his home near Travisville on January 20. He was well known in his section and was quite active in politics. [Date: 2/8/1912, Vol. X, No. 6, Page 5]

HENSLEY, CARRIE: Mrs. Carrie Hensley, wife of Dave J. Hensley died at their home at Cookeville Route 8, April 20, and was buried in the family burying ground April 21. She leaves a husband and three small children and a host of friends to mourn their loss. [Date: 4/25/1912, Vol. X, No. 17, Page 6]

HICKEY, IRA: Sunday evening Sam Dyer shot and killed Ira Hickey at Burton, and shattered an arm of a young man named Bussell. The crime was committed in a frenzy. [Date: 12/9/1903, Vol. I, No. 44, Page 8]
HICKEY, JOHN: John Hickey, who has been very low with consumption for some time, departed this life on the 9th and was buried Sunday at the family graveyard in the presence of a large concourse of friends. HICKEY, JOHN: Bro. Hickey was born Nov. 26, 1872, was married to Mrs. Mary Barr, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. N. H. Nash of Burton, Putnam county, Tenn., Feb. 26, 1894. He obeyed the gospel Feb. 8, 1904. He leaves a widow and three small children and a host of relatives and friends to mourn his loss. Bro. Hickey was a devoted husband, and a good father, a most excellent friend and neighbor, and a devoted christian. He was loved by all and hated by none. HIGH, GEORGE W.: George W. High of this city died in a Nashville hospital Sunday evening, Nov. 12, 1911, after an illness of about two week, and was brought to this city for burial. He leaves a wife and two small children. George was the oldest son of Mr. and Mrs. B. V. High, and about 37 years of age. HILL, A. J.: A. J. Hill, a prominent and leading citizen of Clay county, died at his home five miles east of Celina last week. Mr. Hill was a good man, and will be sadly missed in his community. He leaves a widow and three children, G. W. Hill and Mesdames Grover Rich and William Webb, all of Route 1, Celina. Burial took place at Hilham, funeral services being conducted by Elder H. E. HILL, ELIZA: Mrs. Eliza Hill, widow of Capt. John Hill, died at her home in Dry Valley on April 13, 1908, aged about 75 years, Rev. Oal conducted the funeral services. Mrs. Hill was widely known and universally respected lady. She was the mother of John and James Hill, Mrs. Will Johnson of this county, Mrs. Perty Officer of Sparta. HILL, INFANT OF J. L.: The six months-old infant of J. L. Hill died last Wednesday of membranous croup. [Date: 2/24/1904, Vol. II, No. 3, Page 3]
HINDS, J. M.: J. M. Hinds died at his home in this city to-day, Jan. 24, 1906, with consumption. While it was known that he was low, his death came as a surprise to his friends. The funeral was held from the Presbyterian church Thursday afternoon, under Masonic auspices, interment begin at the city cemetery. HINDS, Z. T.: Mr. Z. T. Hinds died at his residence in this city about eleven o'clock Friday night, May 2, 1913, after a brief (sic) illness. He suffered with a bilious attack Thursday evening and Friday evening became partially paralyzed, followed by a stroke of apoplexy, which was the immediate cause of death. Funeral services were conducted at the Cumberland Presbyterian church at four o'clock Saturday afternoon by Rev. J. R. Goodpasture, burial begin made at the city cemetery. Mr. Hinds was one of Cookeville's best known and most highly esteemed business men. He had lived here most of his life and had been in the drug business for many years. Mr. Hinds was a deyoted (sic) member of the Cumberland church, and a leader in church work. He was about 56 years of age, and leaves his wife and two children, Chas. D. and Miss Alma Hinds, and two sisters, Mrs. Emma James of near Murfreesboro, and Miss Mary Hinds of this city. [Date: 5/8/1913, Vol. XI, No. 19, Page 3]
HIX, ISAAC: Isaac Hix died at his home near Dodson's Branch Saturday, Feb. 29, 1908. He was about 86 years old and well known in this section. [Date: 3/4/1908, Vol. VI, No. 5, Page 1]
HIX, LEWIS: Lewis Hix, of Monterey, a telephone lineman, was killed by coming in contact with a live wire while working in Nashville last Monday. He had a number of relatives and friends here. [Date: 3/7/1912, Vol. X, No. 10, Page 5]
HODGE, ETHEL: Miss Ethel Hodge died on Monday, June 12, 1911, at her home in this city, after an illness of several weeks. She was the oldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Hodge, and about 25 years old. Miss Ethel was one of Cookeville's most loved girls and her death a very sad one, indeed. She was laid to rest in the city cemetery. HOGAN, RAY: Ray Hogan died suddenly with heart disease on Tuesday, Aug., 20, 1907. He was in Van Buren County on business when the summons came. Mr. Hogan was a resident of this city for several years, but has been making Nashville his home for some time, working as a lumber inspector. HOLLADAY, FRED Y.: Fred Y. Holladay died at his home at Brotherton Wednesday of last week and was buried in the family graveyard near Gentry on Friday, under auspices of the Odd Fellows. [Date: 7/29/1903, Vol. I, No. 25, Page 8]
HOLLADAY, FRED Y.: An Odd Fellow Laid to Rest With the Honors of the Order - Bro. F. Y. Holladay died at his home in Brotherton, on the 23rd of July, 1903. He was a member in good standing to the Mount View Lodge No. 179, I. O. O. F. The body was removed from his late home to that of his young manhood in the 12th civil district of Putnam county and buried in the family lot by the lodge. Owing to the extremely hot weather there were but few brothers in attendance 15 in all viz: Wm. Ray, T. C. Holladay, Rev. G. W. Nackles, V. E. Bockman, O. K. Holladay, S. ?. Carr, F. E. Collier, Dr. S. D. Davis, W. R. Carlen, L. P. Gillem, J. F. Slagle, Wm. McBroom, S. D. Denny, Algood Moore and Z. P. Lee. The party left Cookeville in carriages at 7:30 a. m. and arrived at the cemetery at 11 o'clock and found a large concourse of relatives and friends of the deceased brothers awaiting their arrival. . . . HOLLADAY, JASPER PAUL: Sad Story of a Mother's Loss -- Jasper Paul, infant son of Mrs. and L. D. Holladay, of Haileyville, Ind. Ter., formerly of this place, died Feb. 2, 1905, age six months. Mrs. Holladay tells her said story thus; "While attending my household duties, leave my baby in his carriage, the alarm was given by the child himself. Upon reaching the room I found him wrapped in flames, which resulted in death, living only three hours and twenty minutes. In trying to rescue my child from the flames I received a severe and painful burn on my left hand. Every assistance that kind friends and an attentive physician could give was tendered, but all of no avail. My husband had left on the day before for Memphis, and secured work in the switch yard. Failing to reach him I then telegraphed him at Nashville, Harriman and Cookeville. Failing to find him at all I then had my baby's body brought with me on Saturday enroute to Cookeville, for interment, in company with a young lady friend who came as far as Memphis with me. White my friend was waiting at the depot Sunday evening my husband came into the depot to mail a letter to me whereupon she informed him of the death of our baby, this being his first knowledge of it. We had passed each other twice in the switch yards, within one hundred yards of each other without being aware of the fact. I reached Cookeville on the sixth at 3 a. m. My husband, upon the receipt of the news, started for Cookeville and reached here just in time for the funeral. Our friends and relatives in Cookeville, and our friends in Haileyville extended their most loving sympathy in our sad bereavement, which we shall ever remember and appreciate." HOLLADAY, JOE: Uncle Joe Holladay died at Cookeville, and was brought here (Baxter) for burial Saturday. Uncle Joe had many friends and relatives throughout the country, to whom we extend our sympathy. [Date: 1/27/1909, Vol. VII, No. 4, Page 3]
HOLLADAY, MRS. W. A.: Mrs. W. A. Holladay died at her home near Gentry on Friday, Dec. 8, 1911, after a long and painful illness. She was laid to rest in the family burial lot. Mrs. Holladay was a daughter of the late Moses Jared, and a lady of wide acquaintance. She had been a member of the Methodist church for many years. She leave her husband and two children Senator O. HOLLOWAY, ALVIN: The sting of death has visited our section again, and took for its victim Alvin Holloway, a good moral citizen. [Date: 4/22/1908, Vol. VI, No. 12, Page 2]
HOLLOWAY, JERE: Death has again visited our neighborhood and claimed for its victim Uncle Jere Holloway. He was about 75 years of age and had always been a good, peaceable citizen, a kind and affectionate husband and father. He leaves four children and several grandchildren to mourn his loss, his wife having proceeded him to the better land several years ago. Uncle Jere had been afflicted for several years and had borne it patiently, leaving bright evidences behind that he was going to a better world than this. . . . HOLMAN, BEULAH: Death, with his usual companion, sadness, came into our midst on May 30th and without warning snatched from our hearts a precious little lamb, Beulah Holman. Little Beulah was only five months old, just beginning to sit alone and laugh her way into our hearts. God, in his loving kindness lent her to us as a token of His love for us. We feel that it was His will that she should be taken form us, to draw us nearer to Him, and we know we shall see her smiling little face when we reach our home beyond this world of grief and disappointment. HOLMAN, DELIA: Death has entered the family of Mr. Tom Holman, of near Peekville, and carried off the noble spirit of his wife. Delia was born Nov. 23, 1876; departed this life Feb 26, 1903, age 26 years, 3 months and 3 days. She was a true christian, and was ever ready to "weep with those who weep, and rejoice with those who (sic) rejoice." She leaves a husband and five children to mourn her loss, with a host of friends and relatives. HOWARD, FANNIE: Last Thursday afternoon Miss Fannie Howard was killed by a freight train on the Southern Railway near Monterey. In company with her mother, Mrs. Betty Howard, she was crossing a trestle when the train came upon them. The older woman leaped from the bridge, but her daughter was struck and fatally injured. HUGHES, J. P.: Mr. J. P. Hughes, aged 83 years, died at his home near this place Monday and was buried the following day in the family graveyard, in the presence of a number of friends and relatives, Rev. J. M. Horn conducting the funeral services. Mr. Hughes was a good man, and had been identified with the Primitive Baptist church for a number of years. He leaves an invalid widow 80 years of age and only one child, Mrs. McKinney to mourn their loss. They have the sympathy of the entire community. The Lord giveth and taketh away.
