FANCHER, J. A. P.: The death angel visited our community last week and took for its victims J. A. P. Fancher and Randa Hutson. We extend our sympathy to the bereaved ones. [Date: 7/11/1912, Vol. X, No. 28, Page 3]

FARLEY, BILL: Bill Farley, age 80 years, died last week. He was a brother of Howard Farley and an uncle of R. L. Farley, cashier of the bank of Cookeville. He leaves a wife and two daughters to mourn his loss. He was noted wherever he was known, for his honestly and truthfulness. He believed every one could make an honest living that labored and was truthful and honest. He had no use for any one that was not truthful and honest. [Date: 1/20/1910, Vol. VIII, No. 3, Page 4]

FARLEY, GEO.: Since my last letter death claimed for its victim Geo. Farley. He was taken to Livingston for burial. He was a christain. We sympathize with his five children left without father or mother. [Date: 10/21/1909, Vol. VII, No. 42, Page 3]

FARLEY, INFANT OF MR. AND MRS. WILL: Mr. and Mrs. Will Farley of Mayland buried an infant at Watson's graveyard Oct. 16th. [Date: 10/25/1905, Vol. III, No. 38, Page 3]

FARLEY, W. A.: W. A. Farley, one of Maylands most successful merchants died Tuesday morning after an illness of only a few days, the write has not yet learned just what the trouble was. We are sorroy (sic) to lose such a friend. He leaves a wife and three children and a host of friends to mourn his loss. [Date: 3/28/1912, Vol. X, No. 13, Page 8]

FARLEY, W. A.: Dr. W. A. Farley died at his home in Mayland Tuesday morning of brights disease. He was 54 years old and had been a member of the Christian church for a number of years. He had been in the goods business at Mayland for some time and has many friends there in Putnam county. The remains were brought to Cookeville on the train where they were met with conveyance and taken to Browns Mill and laid to rest in the Brown cemetery. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. E. W. Stone. He leaves a wife three children, a mother and two sisters. The entire family has the sympathy of their many friends. [Date: 3/21/1912, Vol. X, No. 12, Page 14]

FARMER, DR. W. M.: Dr. W. M. Farmer died at his home near Buffalo Valley on Saturday and was buried Monday. He was 80 years of age and had been a prominent physician for many years. [Date: 3/18/1908, Vol. VI, No. 6, Page 1]

FARRIS, LULA: Lula Farris of near Buffalo Valley died Friday and was buried Saturday in the Smellage cemetery. She leaves a husband and three children to mourn her death. She has paid the debt we all owe. [Date: 9/11/1913, Vol. XI, No. 37, Page 2]

FERGUSON, BABY OF LEE: Also Lee Ferguson's baby died Nov. 4. [Date: 11/10/1910, Vol. VIII, No. 45, Page 8]

FERGUSON, HUSBAND OF ALICE: Death also visited the home of Mrs. Alice Ferguson and called from her beloved husband. He was buried at the James Bohannon graveyard. [Date: 2/20/1913, Vol. XI, No. 8, Page 1]

FERRELL, L. D.: Mr. L. D. Ferrell died at his home in this city on Monday, March 21, 1910, after a brief illness. He was laid to rest in the city cemetery on Tuesday afternoon. Mr. Ferrell was a man of noble character, one of our best citizens, and we can ill afford his loss. He is survived by his wife and four children: Dr. W. D. Ferrell, Leo Ferrell, Ed Ferrell and Miss Pearl Ferrell, all of this city. [Date: 3/24/1910, Vol. VIII, No. 12, Page 7]

FERRELL, MAGGIE: Mrs. Maggie Ferrell died at her home Sunday afternoon at five o'clock. She leaves a husband and two children beside other close kindred and friends to mourn her loss. [Date: 5/12/1910, Vol. VIII, No. 19, Page 1]

FIELDS, A.: A. Fields died recently after being a shut-in for 9 years. He leaves a wife and 3 children to mourn his loss. They have our sympathy. [Date: 4/13/1911, Vol. IX, No. 15, Page 3]

FIELDS, J. D.: Rebel Soldier Passes Away -- J. D. Fields, of near Chestnut Mound died Jan. 9, 1912, aged 69 years. He was a member of the church 33 years, and was a Rebel Soldier, an honest, hard working farmer. He was the father of R. J. Fields, the well known tobacco raiser, of the 12th Dist. in this county and also has some children in the West, their address being unknown. Perhaps this item may convey to them the sad news and that they may join the relatives here in sympathy in mourning the loss of a kind and loving father. [Date: 2/1/1912, Vol. X, No. 5, Page 1]

FIELDS, J. D.: A Correction -- In reporting the death of J. D. Fields in last weeks Herald your correspondent was in error. If he had lived until the 13 of next April he would have been 68 years old. He volunteered in May 1861 in Capt. (afterward Col) John Fite's Company and was mustered into 7th (Col. Hatton) Reg. Tenn. Vols. By the way he was my nephew and known as Dick Fields. Respectfully, A. FINNEY, MRS. N. J.: Mrs. N. J. Finney died suddenly of heart disease at her home in McKenzie last Monday morning. She had many friends in Cookeville -- her husband having been principal of the city school for two years some time since. [Date: 7/17/1913, Vol. XI, No. 29, Page 3]

FISHER, F. P.: Mrs. F. P. Fisher died Aug. 1 after a wearisome illness, leaving a husband and several children and many friends to mourn her departure. Dear ones it was because God loved you so much that he has taken your loving mother to himself, that you of the family who are not Christians would come to Jesus and be saved. FITZPATRICK, MORGAN: Hon. Morgan Fitzpatrick died at the hospital in Nashville last Thursday night. He had been in failing health for some time, but his friends did not expect his death. Mr. Fitzpatrick had been several times a member of legislature, speaker of the house, member of congress and state superintendent of public instruction. He was only 39 years of age at the time of his death. [Date: 7/1/1908, Vol. VI, No. 22, Page 2]

FLEMING, JOE PRESS: Murder at the Fair Grounds -- Last Friday Joe Press Fleming of Overton county was shot and killed by Haney Burgess of this county. Five shots were fired, four bullets hitting the unfortunate man. The killing occurred at the fair grounds, just outside the enclosure. The murder appears without cause and cold-blooded. Many conflicting reports are abroad, so we shall not attempt to give any particulars. Judge Hull recalled the grand jury Saturday and Burgess was indicted. Bail was fixed at $8,000 but bond has not been made and the accused man is in jail. [Date: 10/4/1905, Vol. III, No. 35, Page 1]

FORD, LEWIS: Death has visited our town again since my last letter and taken a young man, Bentson Blakely, and Uncle Lewis Ford. Uncle Lewis had been confined to his bed for about two months. He first burnt his foot, blood poison set up and Drs. Ray and Officer amputated his foot last Sunday and he died Tuesday morning. He is survived by a wife and several children, brothers and sisters and friends. He was buried at Sand Springs Wednesday in the family graveyard. Rev. G. D. Byrne led the funeral service. . . . He had been a member of the Missionary Baptist church from childhood, but after he came to Monterey one year ago he joined the Holiness church. . . . [Date: 3/31/1910, Vol. VIII, No. 13, Page 3]

FORD, LEWIS M.: Rev. Lewis M. Ford died at his home in Monterey Tuesday after a lingering illness, aged 64. He had been a minister in the Baptist church for many years. [Date: 3/24/1910, Vol. VIII, No. 12, Page 7]

FORD, LIBBIE: Death has again visited our community and taken away Aunt Libbie Ford. She was 70 years old and leaves one sister, two brothers and a host of friends to mourn her loss. [Date: 3/9/1911, Vol. IX, No. 10, Page 7]

FORD, MRS. H. P.: The funeral of Mrs. H. P. Ford took place at her late residence on Saturday at ten o'clock, in the presence of many friends. The services were conducted by Mr. T. J. Gregory and Mr. Jere Whitson. The choir sang "Asleep in Jesus," after which Mr. Gregory read the 14th chapter of John and offered prayer. Mr. Whitson made some appropriate remarks, followed by the choir singing "Death is Only a Dream," closing the services at the house. Mrs. H. P. Ford was buried in the family burial lot, beside her husband, the late Chas. R. Ford. [Date: 2/26/1908, Vol. VI, No. 4, Page 1]

FRANCE, EM: Mrs. Em France died at her home north of Algood on May 18, 1908, and was buried at Clay Springs Tuesday afternoon. [Date: 5/20/1908, Vol. VI, No. 16, Page 1]

FRANCE, SON OF MR. AND MRS. S.: Death visited our community and claimed for its victim the little son of Mr. and Mrs. S. France. [Date: 4/6/1911, Vol. IX, No. 14, Page 4]

FRANKLIN, WIFE OF HINCKLEY: The wife of Hinckley Franklin died Saturday and was buried on Sunday at the Gentry graveyard. [Date: 9/30/1903, Vol. I, No. 34, Page 3]

FREEMAN, BURR: The death angel visited our community Saturday July 17, and claimed for its victim Mr. Burr Freeman, aged 24 years, 6 months and 21 days. He leaves a wife and five small children, mother, two brothers, two sisters and a host of relatives and friends to mourn his loss, but our loss is his eternal gain, for Burr was a good christian man. The family have the sympathy of the entire community. He was buried Sunday evening at the Phillips graveyard, in the presence of a large concourse of friends. FREEMAN, DAUGHTER OF KANA: The sad news came from Livingston yesterday of the death of the little daughter of Kana Freeman. Mrs. E. A. Freeman, W. W. Phy and wife, Mrs. Nora Freeman, Morgan Freeman and Mrs. A. Phillips attended the burial Monday at Paran. Kana and Della weep not for Carra, she is not dead but fell to sleep in the arms of Jesus. FREEZE, A. C.: A. C. Freeze of Waterloo died at the home of his sister, Mrs. J. W. Chilcutt, in this city on Thursday May 23, 1912, from the effects of a second attack of paralysis. Mr. Freeze was about 54 years of age, and a son of the late Maj. Freeze. He had a wide acquaintance and many friends in this section. The funeral was held Friday evening services being conducted by Rev. J. T. Price. Mr. Freeze is survived by his wife and several small children. [Date: 5/30/1912, Vol. X, No. 21, Page 1]

FREEZE, MRS. J. C.: Mrs. J. C. Freeze died at her home in this city last Thursday night, Jan. 5, 1905, and was buried the following evening. Her clothing caught fire in some manner about supper time and Mrs. Freeze was so badly burned that death followed in a few hours. The Herald extends the sympathy of the entire community to the stricken family. [Date: 1/11/1905, Vol. II, No. 49, Page 1]

FREY, MARY: The angel of death again visited our midst and claimed for its victim Miss Mary Frey April 18. She had been sick only one week, but was dangerously ill from the first. She was a good Christian lady and much loved by all who knew her. She was always ready to help in the church work here and taught the Bible class at the Sunday school. She leaves four sisters and three brothers, who will miss her very much. To these we wish to extend our deepest sympathy. Two sister and two brothers were here when she was taken. It was impossible to reach the others as they were so far away. Though she has gone away from us and we shall see her face no more her gentle influence will lives for ages to come.
