ABSTON, CHILD OF LUM: Lum Abston's child got burned Tuesday at 6 o'clock and died at one. She was laid to rest at Sand Springs. [Date: 4/18/1912, Vol. X, No. 16, Page 5]

ADAMS, DAVE: Dave Adams died at his home in this city on Monday evening, April 18, 1910 of consumption. He leaves a wife and a little girl by a former marriage. Mr. Adams had been a successful business man in this city for several years. [Date: 4/21/1910, Vol. VIII, No. 16, Page 5]

ADAMS, J. H.: Whereas, on the 3rd day of October, 1903, it pleased Almighty God to remove from the walks of men our highly esteemed brother, J. H. Adams; therefore be it Resolved by the members of Mr. View Lodge, No. 179, I. O. O. F., of Cookeville, Tenn., that by the death of Bro. Adams this lodge loses a devoted and enthusiastic member whose loyalty and love of Odd Fellowship was ardent and pure, and his community is deprived of an honest, kind-hearted and public spirited citizen, whose actions of charity and graternity strongly endeared him to all who knew him. When he realized the absolute certainty of immediate death he gave a final testimony of his appreciation of Odd Fellowship by entrusting the arrangement of this business affairs to this lodge, and we shall ever cherish his ???? and endeavor to emulate his unfaltering devotion to the principles of our noble order. Further, be it Resolved, that copies of these resolutions be furnished the local newspapers for publication and a page of the lodge records be dedicated to the memory of our deceased brother. ADAMS, WILLIE: The death angel visited our town and claimed for its victim the little child of Dave and Fina Adams. We extend our deepest sympathy to the bereaved family. The little one had all the care that could be given it, . . . [Date: 2/3/1910, Vol. VIII, No. 5, Page 7]

ALEXANDRA, CHILD OF ALBERT: Sunday, April 13th, the little child of Albert Alexandra died and was buried here (Pleasant Hill). We wish to sympathize with the father as he lost his wife early last fall. [Date: 4/24/1913, Vol. XI, No. 17, Page 3]

ALEXANDRA, MARY WILBANKS: Friday night, November second, the death angel visited our little town and claimed for its victim Mrs. Mary Wilbanks Alexandra, wife of Alex Alexandra. They had been married a little over two years. She had been sick for some time and her friends hoped that she would get well, but instead of growing stronger she had drooped day by day, until all, even the fond heirs which watched over her saw that she was surely passing away. It seemed almost impossible for those to whom her presence was sunlight to give her up, yet we know that God does every thing for the best. She was a christian lady, had grown up at Pleasant Hill and went to school at the academy for years. [Date: 11/7/1912, Vol. X, No. 45, Page 3]

ALEXANDRIA, CHARLIE: Charlie Alexandria was killed while working at the basket factory last Friday He fell in the scalding vat while scalding some logs. He was buried at the Rocky Springs cemetery last Sunday by the W. O. W. Lodge of which he was a member. (Bridgeport, AL) [Date: 2/8/1912, Vol. X, No. 6, Page 6]

ALLEN, CHILD OF MR. AND MRS. MARION: The child of Mr. and Mrs. Marion Allen died last Monday and was buried at Dotsons Branch Tuesday. [Date: 3/18/1909, Vol. VII, No. 11, Page 5]

ALLEN, DEMIE: Mrs. Demie Allen, widow of Rev. Jesse Allen, died Saturday and was buried Monday at Dodson Branch. She was about 80 years of age. [Date: 12/13/1905, Vol. III, No. 45, Page 1]

ALLEN, DOW: Dow Allen was buried at Dotson Branch cemetery Dec. 29. He died at his home near Gentry's school house on Blackburn's Fork, Dec. 28, at 6:45 a. m. He leaves a wife, son, three daughters and many relatives to mourn his loss. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Swearingin. His son, Cook, is in California and his daughters live in the vicinity. Father is gone but not forgotten by relatives and friends. [Date: 1/4/1912, Vol. X, No. 1, Page 4]

ALLEN, DUKE: Duke Allen died last week and buried on Blackburn's Fork at C. K. Allen's in the family graveyard. [Date: 9/1/1910, Vol. VIII, No. 35, Page 1]

ALLEN, INFANT OF MARIAN: Marian Allens little infant was buried at Dotson Branch last Friday. [Date: 4/21/1910, Vol. VIII, No. 16, Page 4]

ALLEN, JESSE S.: Jesse S. Allen died at his home 2 1/2 miles north of Algood, on Aug. 15, 1902 (sic), at the age of 74 years. He was esteemed and loved by all who knew him. He was a mem- of the M. E. church and lived a consistent member of the same. Always ready to aid those who were in distress and his loving hand extended to the needy. He served under Gen. Dibrell during the war as a private soldier, and was twice married. His first wife was Miss Sarah A. Howard, his second, who survives him was Miss Addie Potter, neither of which have any children. Thus another old soldier has stacked his arms and crossed over the river to join the host who precede him and awaiting the last roll call. . . . [Date: 8/26/1903, Vol. I, No. 29, Page 2]

ALLEN, JOHN: The death angel visited the home of Mr. Allen Saturday morning and claimed for its victim Mr. John Allen. He leaves seven children to mourn his loss. Mr. Allen had been a Christian man for several years, and we hope to meet him in a better world. He was laid to rest at the McBroom graveyard beside his dear wife, who had just gone on before. ALLEN, POLLY: Miss Polly Allen died last Saturday and was buried Sunday. [Date: 2/19/1908, Vol. VI, No. 3, Page 4]

ALLEN, RUFUS: Rufus Allen of Ada, I. T., formerly of this city, died Sunday of paralysis. His remains will be brought here for interment. [Date: 5/31/1905, Vol. III, No. 17, Page 1]

ALLONS, WIFE AND DAUGHTER OF LEE: Lee Allons wife died last Monday p.m. Her daughter died three days before her. They were both laid to rest at Popular Springs. She leaves a husband and four little boys, and two of them are very low with typhoid fever. [Date: 1/19/1911, Vol. IX, No. 3, Page 3]

ANDERSON, BOB: The death angel visited the home of Bob Anderson Nov. 5, and took him away leaving a wife and one little son. His death was caused by heart trouble. [Date: 11/14/1912, Vol. X, No. 46, Page 3]

ANDERSON, JAMES A.: James A. Anderson of Chattanooga, son of Rev. W. J. Anderson of Bloomington, died at his home on Jan. 1, 1905, aged 29 years. [Date: 1/18/1905, Vol. II, No. 50, Page 1]

ANDERSON, JAS. H.: Jas. H. Anderson died at his home in Gainesboro one day last week. He was a well-known and highly esteemed citizen of Jackson county. [Date: 4/7/1910, Vol. VIII, No. 14, Page 5]

ANDERSON, MARTHA: Martha, wife of Lee Anderson, died at her home in Algood, Tuesday night, Sept. 15, 1903, and was buried next day at Dotson's Chapel. Deceased was a step-daughter of Rev. W. J. Anderson of Bloomington. [Date: 9/16/1903, Vol. I, No. 32, Page 1]

APPLE, FANNIE: Mrs. Fannie Apple, widow of Rev. Apple, died at her home in this city Saturday, March 11, 1911, after a long illness. [Date: 3/16/1911, Vol. IX, No. 11, Page 5]

APPLE, JOHN: Mr. John Apple (Dray) aged about 80 years, died last week. Mr. Apple was a good man, being of the Holiness faith. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Chenault. We extend sympathy to the bereaved ones. [Date: 3/20/1913, Vol. XI, No. 12, Page 6]

APPLE, NEED: Uncle Need Apple died this morning, July 29, 1903, at the residence of his son-in-law, Dr. Chilcutt in West Cookeville, after a long illness. He was in his 85th year, ailments incident to old age causing his death. The funeral will be from the house at 2 o'clock Thursday, and interment at the Cookeville cemetery. APPLE, SALLIE: The community was shocked last Monday when word reached here from Nashville that Miss Sallie Apple was dead, and with hushed voice the sad news was given from neighbor to neighbor. Miss Apple had gone to Nashville several weeks go, and was taken sick. About a week ago she began to improve, and it was supposed that in a short time she would be again in her usual health. Such was not to be, however, for on Monday her condition suddenly changed for the worse, and in a few hours, her pure spirit took its flight to God. Her remains were brought to this city on the Monday night shopping train and the funeral was held from the family residence on Tuesday afternoon, the services being conducted by Elder Jesse Walling, burial being at the City Cemetery. The funeral was perhaps the most largely attended in the history of the town. Miss Apple had been in charge of the millinery department at Whitson Bros, for several years and was an accomplished millinier and successful business woman. She was a truly popular young woman, possessing to an unusual degree all those feminine graces and charms men adore and women love. Hers was a most lovable character, and in consequence her friends were legion. Cookeville had lost one of its most gracious and charming daughters. She was a daughter of Rev. and Mrs. Wm. Apple of this city, who with several sisters and one brother, W. H. Apple of Nashville, survive her. To the bereaved family the Herald extends the heartfelt (sic) sympathy of our entire population in their hour of great sorrow. APPLE -- At the home of her sister, Mrs. W. L. APPLE, WIRT: Mr. Wirt Apple died at his home in this city on Sunday, Jan. 19, 1908, of pneumonia. His remains were taken to the Chestnut Mound for burial. Mr. Apple was about 60 years of age and leaves a widow and several children. [Date: 1/22/1908, Vol. V, No. 51, Page 1]

APPLE, WM.: Rev. Wm. Apple died at his home in this city Thursday night, March 18, 1909, after a long illness. [Date: 3/25/1909, Vol. VII, No. 12, Page 5]

ARNOLD, JESSE: Jesse Arnold, one of Putnam county's most prominent and highly esteemed citizens, died Wednesday evening, after a gnliering (sic) illness, at his home in this city. He was 67 years old and until four years ago, when his health failed, he was a robust man. He served 12 years as clerk and master of the Chancery court of this county and six years as county judge. He organized the Bank of Cookeville and was its president for 20 years. He was mayor of Cookeville for several terms and was one of the most public spirited and progressive citizen this county ever had. Mrs. Arnold had been a ruling elder in the Presbyterian church of this city for 35 years and for more than 30 years had been secretary of its Sunday school. He was a pillar in his church and one of the leading Presbyterian laymen of the state, having often been a commissioner to the general assembly of the church. In his donations to his church and its enterprises and to all charitable and educational calls he was exceedingly liberal. He was a Mason of high degree and greatly attached to this order. Mr. Arnold is survived by his wife and four married daughters -- Mrs. C. E. Wilson and Mrs. O. E. Camerson of this city, Mrs. Lee Epperson of Algood and Mrs. Hamilton Wilson of Lebanon, and two sisters, Mrs. Ova Goodpasture and Mrs. Avo Douglass of Cookeville. He also has a larger number of other relatives in Cookeville. His funeral service will be conducted at the Presbyterian church tomorrow afternoon and his remains interred at the city cemetery. . . . ASHBURN, LIZZIE CARMACK: Mrs. Lizzie Carmack Ashburn, wife of Joseph H. Ashburn, died at their home near Taiban, N. M., April 17, 1911, and was buried at that place. Mr. has returned to his former home near Olga. [Date: 5/4/1911, Vol. IX, No. 18, Page 2]
