- 21 Aug 1907 - C. J. Davis - JMW was a Confederate Soldier
- 14 Mar 1908 - C. J. Davis -
- Enlisted and served in the same company. JHW was captured at Parker's Crossroads and sent to Camp Douglas, IL. He was released 1 Apr 1863. Just before his capture, a horse fell on him at Humbolt, TN.
- When he was exchanged, JMW was weak and feeble. CJD did not expect him to live.
- From City Point, VA, he was transferred to Chattanooga. But his command was in Alabama and Mississippi. He came home in a wagon.
- His only mistake was not hunting up the proper papers. Failure to do so can be explained by 3 reasons: 1) he was almost dead; 2) only 21 and no mature judgement; 3) he had no education
- 14 Mar 1908 - JMW - requests status
