  • Wounds: shot in the hand at Chickamauga
  • Captured at Drewry's Bluff, VA on 16 May 1864
  • Transferred to Elmira prison until 15 Mar 1865. Then released and sent to Richmond, VA.
  • Joined with General Dibrell's army until the war ended.

  • SERVICES HELD SATURDAY FOR MRS. W. H. PHIFER -- Funeral services for Mrs. Susan Clark Phifer, 74, who died at Pleasant Hill Friday, were conducted Saturday at Brown's Mill, by the Reverand Sam Edwards and Reverand George Pennington. Burial took place at the Brown's Mill Cemetery. Mrs. Phifer was born and reared in the Dry Valley community, and was married in 1883 to W. H. Phifer. She was a member of the Baptist Church and had led an outstanding Christian life. She had been ill of pneumonia for 3 weeks preceding her death. Mrs. Phifer is survived by five children, Mrs. Amanda Wheat, Mrs. Mattie Davis, of Cookeville, Benton Phifer of Nashvillle, Mrs. Melvin Huffines of Brotherton, and Dudley Phifer of Dry Valley, 2 step-sons, B. S. Phifer of Sparta and J. F. Phifer of Cookeville; also survived by two brothers, Sid Clark and Robert Clark of Sparta and a sister Mrs. Cora Hitchcock of Sparta.
